My Sexy Saturday: The Cancan Show

I am very excited about the F/F western series I have started. I have finished book 1 The Virgin Madame and am plotting out book 2.

Laura lives in Bitterroot Flats, California a town run by outlaws. After one of the outlaws murders her papa she inherits the Honey Ranch. Growing up in a brothel has been a unique experience for Laura and as she watches the can-can show she admits her urges.

Here are 7 sentences!

I focused on the women, their every seductive move. The dancers turned around in place before prancing around the stage in a small circle, flashing the gentlemen big smiles. A thrill zipped through me when they formed a line again and started their high kicks. I could drool over those legs. Heat and desire burning in my belly, I hoped no one could read my dirty thoughts.

The women continued playing with their skirts, bending forward and then slowly pulling their skirts back to reveal their stockings a little at a time. They were all such a tease, enticing the men. And me as well.

Summer Chillin': Fresh Fruit Tart

A fun and sexy dessert for summer are fresh fruit tarts. I love tarts. In fact, I could eat them until I got sick, lol. They have berries in them so that actually makes them healthy, right?

Here is an easy recipe for those yummy tarts!

French Fruit Tart

By Superkbb at en.wikipedia [Public domain], from Wikimedia Commons

A traditional French fruit tart will impress at any dinner party or special homemade meal for two.

Surprisingly simple to make, the secret to success is all in the way you dress it.

Ingredients:

Sweet pastry tart cases
8 ounces mascarpone cheese
1/4 cup double cream
1/4 cup granulated sugar
3 1/2 - 4 cups assorted berries, rinsed and dried well, blueberries, raspberries, kiwi and strawberries
3 tablespoons raspberry jelly
How to make:

1. Follow the recipe to make sweet pastry cases and allow the tart cases to cool.

2. In a large mixing bowl, beat the mascarpone cheese, double cream, and sugar together.

3. Beat until smooth and spoon mixture into the tart case ensuring it is smooth - you can use a spatula or the reverse side of a spoon to help with this.

4. Put the raspberry jelly into a small saucepan and melt it on a low heat.

5. Put this to one side and arrange the chopped kiwi, blueberries and raspberries and halved strawberries on top of the mascapone.

6. Use a brush to glaze the fruits with the melted jelly. Store at room temperature or chill in the fridge for one day before serving for best results.

I have had a fun time hopping and picking up new tasty recipes. I hope you have, too. This is my last Summer Chillin' recipe. But the blog hop will be back next summer. Dirty Birdie Flock Hop

DBFH
It is time for the Dirty Birdie Blog Hop! This is a hop for authors, publishers, bloggers… basically anyone who loves dirty books, has a website or blog, and wants to join in!

So of course I signed up.

Time for a dirty character interview!

Kojo thank you for joining me on History in the Hot Lane. Please start off by introducing yourself.

Thank you for having me, Shiloh. My name is Kojo. It is an African name. I immigrated to the United States in 1800. I had culture shock for a while, but Captain Mather helped me adjust to my new life.

1. You wear a leather necklace with a single red bead. How is that significant to you?

My necklace is a talisman. I live with one foot in this world and one foot in the Spirit world. The necklace helps me to communicate with the Spirits. In Africa I was revered for this gift.

2. You say you're close to the Spirits. How do they appear to you? And do you still talk to them now that you've moved to a new country?

I was afraid when I left Africa I would lose my connection with the Spirits, but they followed me to my new home and continue to offer me guidance. I can picture the Spirits in my mind's eye as full bodied people. They either rise up from the ground or descend down upon me like a bird. I can feel them touch me and surround me.

3. When did you realize you were interested in men?

One reason I chose to devote my life to the Spirits was because I had no interest in women. I didn't understand it. Being close to the Spirit world gave me fulfillment, but I needed more. It wasn't until I met Captain Mather that I realized I was interested in men. I thank the Spirits for bringing us together.

4. What is your favorite food?

I like a good smoked fish and a glass of rum.

5. What is your favorite sexual position?

I like the missionary position. Although basic it is very intimate. I love to see my partner's eyes. Nothing excites me more than to watch him come..

6. Do you miss your home in Africa?

I had a chance to go back to Africa but they wouldn't understand my love for another man. The Spirits guided me to this new country. I do miss my family and I dream about my old village, but I know I will have a more fulfilling life here.

Each site participating in the Dirty Birdie Flock Hop is offering some sort of giveaway. In honor of Kojo's saltwater journey and falling in love aboard a ship I am giving away an ocean scented candle to one lucky commenter.

More eye candy awaits you. I encourage you to continue hopping! You can view all the participating sites here: http://www.dirtybirdiesauthors.com/dirty-birdies-flock-hop/

Summer Chillin': Mint Julep

By Tammy Green from Chicago, USA (Mint Julep)

Are you having fun with the Summer Chillin' Blog Hop? I'm here with another recipe.

With alcohol consumption about three times higher in the 1860s than modern times, there are a lot of Civil War era recipes for alcoholic drinks. Here is one for the Mint Julep:

MINT JULEP No. 1

3/4 to 1 cup brandy or cognac
1/2 tsp. rum
2 and 1/2 tbs. water
1 tbs. sugar
Several fresh mint leaves

Dissolve one tablespoon of white pulverized sugar in two and one-half tablespoons of water. Take two sprigs of fresh mint and press them well in the sugar and water, until the flavor of mint is extracted; add one wine glass of Cognac brandy, and fill the glass with fine shaved ice, then draw out the sprigs of mint and insert them in the ice with the stems downward, so that the leaves will be above, in the shape of a bouquet; arrange berries, and small pieces of sliced orange on top in a tasty manner, dash with Jamaican rum, and sprinkle white sugar on top. Place a straw across the top of the glass, and there is your mint julep.

From Bon-Vivant's Companion by Jerry Thomas, New York, 1862.

Enjoy!

Summer Chillin': West African Ginger Drink

In today's Summer Chillin' blog post I thought I'd try something a little different. In honor of Kojo's African roots (one of the characters in my M/M romance Saltwater Lover) I thought I'd give you a simple West African ginger drink recipe. Only make this if you really like ginger. :)

West African Ginger Drink

Ingredients
3 large ginger roots
6 limes
2-3 cups of water
1 heaped tbsp peppercorns
1 heaped tbsp raw sugar

Preparation
Leaving the skin on, chop the ginger into small pieces.
Chop lime with rind into small chunks.

In a blender, put more ginger than lime and add enough water to be able to blend it. Taste the mixture as you go and add more lime or ginger as needed.

Strain the mixture through a sieve into a bowl and squeeze remaining juice from the pulp.

In the blender add peppercorns and sugar – then return the strained liquid to the blender and blend until smooth.

Once more strain the mixture through a sieve into a saucepan.

Heat the saucepan and bring the liquid to the boil. As soon as the liquid has reached boiling point take it off the heat and allow to cool.

Pour liquid over ice and add a little cold water and drink!

Enjoy!

And then go Hop some more.

Summer Chillin Sex and Lemonade

I am participating in the Summer Chillin' Blog Hop where you can find some great recipies for the summer!

Summer Chillin Button (1)I was going to post something sexy like how to make Sex on the Beach... but well you already know how to do that I'm sure, LOL

And in case you've lived a sheltered life and have never heard of this mixed drink before here is a tutorial :

So you actually get two recipes today instead of one!

Now for something totally innocent and easy! (Yes, I can be innocent once in a while.) It is another drink. I am always grabbing something cool to drink.

Old Fashioned Lemonade

Perfect for a hot sunny day when you want a sugar high instead of a buzz. And it is the old fashioned kind of course, because this is History in the Hot Lane.

Ingredients:

- 6 lemons

- 1 cup white sugar

-6 cups cold water

Juice the lemons to make 1 cup of juice. To make your labor easier, FIRMLY roll the lemons between your hand and counter top before cutting in half and juicing.

In a gallon pitcher combine 1 cup lemon juice, 1 cup sugar, and 6 cups cold water. Stir. Adjust water to taste. Chill and serve over ice.

And then go Hop some more.

Nude Cyclists on Parade

I haven't been blogging for a while because I've been on vacation. Tomorrow I am going with a friend to Seattle, Washington. My friend is from Texas and wants to see Seattle so we signed up for a tour of the Emerald City.

Unfortunately, it was bad timing. The roads are going to be blocked and the tour will actually be a maze of detours. Sigh. There is a half marathon and marathon scheduled for tomorrow and in the Fremont area the nudist parade. Nudist parade?

Well, maybe it isn't that bad after all!

This is a very unique, down to earth parade. No motorized floats are allowed, no signage, no politics... These brave bicyclists paint their bodies and ride down the route nude. I hope it is sunny day.

Here is YouTube video of last year's parade.
Maybe it will be a plot bunny for my next erotica story... you never know!

Close Liaisons by Ann Zaires

Close Liaisons (Krinar Chronicles #1) is the first post appocoliptic romance I've read and actually enjoyed. Too often post appoc is all gloom and doom or the hero and heroine are running for their lives and just HAVE to stop and have sex not afraid the bad guys are going to catch them. Yeah. That is a pet peeve of mine. Close Liaisons was totally different.

Aliens (the Krinar) have invaded Earth and signed a Coexistence Treaty. They have K Centers throughout the United States and others live among the human population. Korum is one of those. He lives in New York City where he meets college student Mia in Central Park. It was love at first sight for him. Now if only he could get Mia to come around... except she sees him as dangerous, as the enemy.

Blurb:
A dark and edgy romance that will appeal to fans of erotic and turbulent relationships . . .

In the near future, the Krinar rule the Earth. An advanced race from another galaxy, they are still a mystery to us – and we are completely at their mercy.

Shy and innocent, Mia Stalis is a college student in New York City who has led a very normal life. Like most people, she’s never had any interactions with the invaders – until one fateful day in the park changes everything. Having caught Korum’s eye, she must now contend with a powerful, dangerously seductive Krinar who wants to possess her and will stop at nothing to make her his own.

How far would you go to regain your freedom? How much would you sacrifice to help your people? What choice will you make when you begin to fall for your enemy?

WARNING: This book contains strong sexual content and explicit language and is not suitable for readers under 18.

Word Count: 88,000

My Review:

I'm not usually a fan of post appoc romance but I enjoyed reading Close Liaisons Aleins (the K's) have invaded Earth and no coexist with them under a treaty. Korum one of the most powerful K's falls in love with Mia a college student in New York City. This novel is written solely from Mia's POV although there are a few slips into Korum's head. Usually not getting the hero's side of the story is a problem for me but the author made me feel close to Korum without being in his shoes. Bravo!

The author did a wonderful job developing both of these characters and explaining the differences between a human and a K. Korum was such an Alpha it turned me off a bit, but I realize this also played into the plot. Mia has been warned by the Resistance (people fighting the K's living on Earth) that all Korum wants with her is to be his sex slave. Her body craves his touch, but does she dare let him have her heart as well?

This story was definitely erotic. All the sex scenes were written well. Yum. The chapters were short which helped move this longer book along. The plot seemed a weak. I kept waiting for a dramatic dark moment and it never came. The ending leaves a lot of questions to be answered in the next book. Not sure it worked for me. I still never felt that Mia loved him with all her heart.

Overall it was a good read though!

I give Close Liaisons *** 3 stars. The Kindle edition is currently free on Amazon.

Interview with Modern Tintype Photographer Ed Ross

I love history and collect tintypes. I was searching the Internet and I stumbled upon Ed Ross' photography site. I spent a long time looking at all his modern tintype pictures. I didn't even know photography like this existed! They are so interesting I encourage you to take a look. You can view his site here.

Mr. Ross was kind enough to agree to a quick interview. I am pleased to have him as a guest on History in the Hot Lane.

For those who do not know, what is a tintype?

In the tintype method of photography, a positive image is made in the camera on a piece of metal.  A similar method is called an ambrotype, in which the image is made on glass.  The tintype came into huge popularity around the time of the civil war, as soldiers made images to give to their loved ones (and their loved ones made images to give to the soldiers).

I know photographers set up at Civil War reenactments and other historical gatherings. Have you ever participated in one?

I have not done so.  My only overlap to date has been some "civil war pin-up" images.  These are in the "pin-up" vein but with civil war accouterments.

What inspired you to take modern tintype pictures?

I enjoy the unique qualities of the method.  It takes a lot of effort to do, and I get a lot of satisfaction out of an image when I get one I like.

How long have you been taking tintype pictures?

Just short of 5 years.

What do you like about the tintype medium for photographing your models?

Although a tintype takes about 15 minutes to make (beginning to end), when completed it is done-done, like a polaroid.  So if a shoot lasts three hours, I may make 10-12 images.  But the model and I are able to hold and look at each image as it is completed, and we make changes as we go along.  I find this to be a very engaging process with a model, and much more so than with film or digital (though similar to polaroid).

What are the cons to tintypes as opposed to modern photography?

You need quite a bit of gear, including a darkroom (or darkspace).  The chemicals can be noxious.  It isn't easy to do well consistently.

Did photographers take nude pictures in the 19th century?

Yes, and particularly in Paris.  There was a brisk trade in nude photography dating back to the 1850s, and most were characterized as tools for painters (i.e., an inexpensive option to paying a sitter to pose).

How do you hope to capture with your tintypes? Or how do you want them to be perceived?

That's a tough question, and I'm not too good with the "artists statement" thing.  I shoot what I think is beautiful, both people and landscape.  I hope people perceive some beauty in my images.

Thank you, again for the interview! The tintype you provided for this post is beautiful. Color can add beauty to pictures, but sometimes I enjoy the simplicity of black and white. I really appreciate that you are continuing to carry on this old art form.

If you have any questions for Mr. Ross please leave them below. Or you can just comment. As a fellow artist I know we love feedback!

Six Sentence Sunday 6/2/3013

Today's Six Sentence Sunday is a continuation of yesterday's My Sexy Saturday post. Because seven sentences was just not enough!

Excerpt:

Mather felt solid under his clothes. He longed to feel the Captain’s bare skin against his though the thought scared him — had scared him since the first day on the beach. He’d always imagined fear and desire were two very different things. Now he knew otherwise.

Mather gripped his member tightly, but not enough to hurt. “Do you like this? Hmmm?”

All he could do was moan.

Oops. That was eight sentences instead of six. I gave you a bonus.

My Sexy Saturday - M/M Slave Ship Loving

My Sexy Saturday

My Sexy Saturday is a new author meme and I'm proud to join. Look for #MySexySaturday on Twitter.

Every Saturday, published and unpublished authors will be sharing 7 words, sentences, or paragraphs from a work-in-progress or an already published story.

For my first sexy Saturday, I’m going to share 7 sentences from my M/M Historical Romance Saltwater Lover which takes place aboard a slave ship in 1800.

Excerpt:

Mather ran his fingertips lightly from the base of Kojo’s shaft to his softly swollen tip. His eyes were gentle, uncertain. As though afraid to hurt him.

He inhaled sharply, undone by the simple caress. This was his reward? He’d never expected something like this. Dizzy, from shock, he reached out with his one free hand to grab the man’s shoulder.

You can meet the Kojo and Captain Mather in yesterday's post.
